Vending machines can be equipped with a TDN barcode reader. Buying from these vending machines using a TDN App installed on a mobile digital device is as easy as using cash. The user splits the payment amount, displays it on the device’s screen and positions it in front of the vending machine barcode reader. The TDN used for vending machine purchasing must not be protected with a PIN or PKI.

Vending machines may even be equipped with smart card reader and accept ‘gift cards’ type Smart Cards.

A paper printed barcode can be also used. The user may frequently use the same amount for vending machine purchasing and have many printed TDN barcode for the same amount.

There are a lot if advantages for the owner of the vending machine. It is less expensive to equip a vending machine with a bar code reader, internet connection and the necessary software. This machine is less prone to failure. The owner of the vending machine can retrieve the money without visiting the location or the they can be directly deposited in the vendor’s bank account. The money cannot be stolen from the vending machine by thieves.

After the TDN Signature is read by the machine and the product is released the vendor takes ownership of the TDN and the buyer is no longer able to use it. The transaction takes just a fraction of the second.
